on February 28, 2020Great Greenie shot, Arnold! Have you ever seen a Green Heron *fishing?* At the pond here, we've had several years of Green Herons that will take a leaf, push it off the bank with their beaks, and within three attempts a fish will come to investigate, and strike! From what I've read, it isn't unusual behavior for Greenies. What is unusual is to capture the action. I haven't done it because such a scene calls for video, and I never carry a tripod. Anyway, next time you see a Green Heron, and it's standing by the bank of a pond putting leaves or bread (I've seen bread that was thrown in by people who can't read) in the water and give it a little push, be prepared.
